The word "foundation" is defined as the basis on which something is grounded. In architecture, if a structure's foundation is weak, all else fails. This holds true as well to makeup application. If the foundation used is too frail to begin with, the makeup will be dull and unattractive. Thus, to get a foundation that is just right, shop for the one that matches your skin tone. Refrain from purchasing a foundation that changes your skin color giving you an unnatural appearance. This can practically be very tricky to avoid since many foundations appear almost similar in color and razor-thin in difference in terms of shade. Yet, it won't take long for you to find the right match for your skin. The challenge, however, is in getting the foundation to match your skin type, be it dry or oily. Here are some tips that will help you in your dilemma when it comes to foundation.

1. For Moderate to Oily skin. There are two types of foundation for this skin type which are oil free foundations or matte liquid foundations and foundations that are pressed powder-based.

Oil free foundations or matte liquid foundations - Not only does it give an even finish but this type of foundation leaves no shine. The appearance may last for hours but is dependent on how oily your skin can get and the extent of your skin's dryness. This foundation provides faint to medium coverage.

Foundations that are pressed powder-based. This type of foundation also provides faint to medium coverage. It is able to stick around on the skin. It is creamy and feels like silk when applied and blends well on the skin.

2. For very Oily Skin. Ultra Matte foundation is best for this type of skin. Ultra matte truly lasts and provides medium to complete coverage. This form of foundation is ideal for women who live in a place where the climate can be humid and for women who love to workout even with their makeup on.

3. For Dry to Normal Skin. Water-based foundations and regular liquid foundations are best for this type of skin. The presence of oil in these foundations fit just right in the appearance of dry to normal skin types. Makeup will blend easily and if mistakes are done, may be corrected with the help of a sponge.

4. For very Dry and Wrinkled Skin. Oil-based foundations match this type of skin. Its demulcent ingredients add moisture to the skin consequently temporarily minimizing the manifestation of wrinkles on the face.

5. For somewhat Dry Skin. A combination of creamy liquid foundation and pressed powder foundation is what's right for this skin type giving the skin both a matte and powdered finish.
