There is a certain magic that occurs at Christmas time, and that magic is reflected in the eyes of every small child in the family. When Christmas shopping for little ones, it is sometimes necessary to pause and watch their reactions as they sit in the shopping cart watching all of the marvelous things that are happening around them.
Some of these little ones might be too young to understand the meaning of Christmas, but the small statues that are arranged in the store will make them wonder about a man who smiles a lot and wears a long white beard on his face. They might sit and stare at the red colors in his coat and the glitter that sparkles in that big long beard that he wears on his face.
New parents never forget their child's first Christmas because they took them to the malls and let their child meet Santa for the first time. The little ones never seem to mind being held for a while by a strange man in a red suit but parents will certainly be surprised if their little one smiles for the camera and gives that man in the red suit a tug on his beard a time or two while he is being held in arms that feel strong and reassuring.
Toddlers seem to have a different opinion of Santa and the elves that help him out each year. They might be quite distressed to leave Mom arms and be made to take a seat on the strange man's lap that is part of his red suit. Parents will know their child's cries from the other end of the mall because Dad took them to see Santa that year, and they will most certainly make eye contact with Santa when they remove the screaming child after a photograph was taken.
Some parents take their little ones to the mall to shop just to get an idea of what they find appealing. Some of the smaller children might not be ready to talk and parents have to rely on any type of facial expression that they make to make a decision on their toys to purchase that year. Some like purple dinosaurs and other kids like yellow birds that are very tall. Whichever one they reach for is the one that the Mother will want to get that year.
Many parents make sure to keep their child a good distance away from the shelves where the toys are placed each year. They base this caution on an incident that they went through the previous year that left hundreds of toys on the floor of one aisle in the store and it took some time to put them back where they were supposed to go. Christmas shopping with little ones takes practice and a lot of patience and some parents cringe with just the thought of having to do it.
