Many parents used to worry about how the shape of their child's feet would be affected because the child was always walking around the house barefoot. There has been a good amount of research on this area and parents concerns were recognized as being firmly founded. Children that do not wear shoes on a regular basis tend to experience a spreading of the bones in the foot and in some cases develop flat feet.

Some cultures have used shoes to change the shapes of feet because small feet were considered dainty and very desirable to suitors when the person was older. The feet were often bound in strips of cloth that were tightened over a period of time and encased in shoes of smaller sizes than normal until the bones of the foot were compressed enough to be considered a respectful size for those cultures.

Some people find that the shoes they wear have caused callouses to form that can be unsightly to anyone that views them. This foot ailment caused people to walk with a different gait and some people slanted the ankle when they walked to alleviate the pain they were experiencing. This habitual accommodation eventually led to people having a handicap when they walked and shoes were eventually created to correct the problem.

Salons were developed that catered to people with callouses on the feet. The technicians were well versed in recognizing problems even before the person removed the shoes that they wore everyday. The shape of the shoes had a dramatic effect on the areas where callouses and blisters formed and with regular pedicures they were able to help people regain better health by removing these callouses from the bottom and sides of their feet.

Shoes which are rounded at the toe will often cause some people a good deal of discomfort. This is because some people have longer toes and find that they must crimp their toes under in order to avoid blisters from forming. When they go shopping for shoes, they are usually searching for open toed models or shoes that offer a pointed toe that may or may not be in style.

There are many people who have diabetes and must take special care when selecting shoes that they will wear everyday. The improper shaping in the shoes they wear will have a direct effect on the amount of circulation they get to the toes and with this loss of blood flow there is a good chance that they will need to have those toes amputated one day. Then they will have to learn to walk in a whole new way because the shape of the foot will definitely change.
