Anyone who has seen motorcycles can attest that its windshield is close to zilch. That's the reason why it's crucial for riders to choose helmets with face plates or face covers so as to help prevent dusts, bugs and other foreign particles in colliding with the eyes. The eyes are very vulnerable especially if riding at high speeds.

For those riders who feel uncomfortable at wearing bulky full faced helmets, the next crucial step in protective gear is choosing the right goggles for riding. Goggles nowadays come in different forms and materials. It can be mind boggling which brand or style to choose from since there are a lot that could satisfy its sole purpose of protecting the eyes.

Budget

Primarily the main restriction for buying top of the line safety gear is the budget. Since impact resistant materials come with a hefty price, choose goggles that come with the basic impact resistant certificates. Buying those plastic framed goggles that do not comply with any safety standards can only mean one thing when you experience a crash - a shattered face or worse it can be a main cause of blindness due to direct trauma of the eyes. Choose reliable brands that are time trusted since this can be a critical safety gear during life or death situations.

Frame

The frame is the main skeletal system for any goggles. Make it a point to choose a material that is sturdy, can withstand impact and at the same time lightweight. There are many types of frames that range from the most common and cheap break proof material such as polycarbonate to the most expensive lightweight alloy or aircraft aluminum. These are all good materials but the more expensive it becomes the better protection it gives. Keep in mind that the goggles you choose should be comfortable enough that it could be worn for hours during long road trips. Buy frames big enough to fit sunglasses or eyeglasses under it.

Lens

Another crucial part to consider in choosing the right goggles is the lens. A common feature among goggle lenses now is the ultra violet ray protection. This mainly protects the eyes from the damaging glare of the sun. Choose lenses that don't shatter on impact so that when accidents occur, the lens particles won't be the ones to enter the eyes. Another consideration is buying Polaroid lenses which helps protect your eyes from incoming traffic headlights.

The bottom line in choosing goggles is mainly for protection. Form and features come in second. As long as the gear adheres to safety standards, it can already be considered as a good protective gear.
