After choosing the protective head gear, we now need to choose the riding clothes. It has been imprinted on our minds that when riding a motorbike it should be paired with leather jackets to give that cool bad boy look. But have many of us asked why it should be leather with the bike? We must admit, it really looks good and the get up compliments the machine itself. The rider on the bike may be exposed to the elements on the road and the surroundings since it has no structure attached to it that can absorb impact so banking on good protective gear may be the best investment for your ride. Riding with leather is not just merely a projection of the cool image but it has its own purpose and function.

For serious riders, especially those with big bulky bikes that pack a lot of horsepower, wearing leather is a must. The plus side of wearing leather is that you won't need more layers of clothes to protect you from accidents. Leather may be hot, can give off a smell and may be heavy at times but this can save you from that dreaded road rash in case accidents happen. Wearing a leather gear does not only mean the jacket but also the pants and the gloves.

Choosing the right leather gear may be confusing especially because of the designs and the graphics that goes with it. Always remember when buying leather gear select those with stickers that adhere to certain safety standards. Standards of safety for leather gear may differ from each other for every state or nation but this can still assure you that it can serve its one basic purpose - to protect.

There are alternative materials to be used as a protective gear other than leather. The most common and the cheapest is textile material. The textile may be cheaper and lighter than that of leather but this is only a one time use gear. If in case the rider may suffer an accident, the textile material tears easily and you may need to buy a new one. Also wearing textile as a protective gear means a thinner layer of protection so you may want to add a few layers of clothes so that it can help soften the fall.

Textile to leather comparison may seem to go just head to head except if the rider suffers an accident in which case the leather gains an advantage. Your choice between leather and textile all boils down to the following factors: the budget, the fit, and the comfort.
