A bridal veil is not only a wedding essential but it also has hidden traditions. According to some beliefs a wedding veil should be worn by the bride to cover her face to avoid bad luck regarding the soon to be groom seeing his would be bride before the wedding. Another tradition is wearing the veil to tease or torment the groom by concealing or hiding the face of the bride and only the face of the bride can be shown once the groom becomes her husband. Whether you believe in these traditions or not, for whatever explanation or justification you have in wearing a veil, there are a lot of factors to be considered in choosing the right veil for you.

A coiffure plays a great deal on how you put on your wedding veil. For example, you may be wearing your hair all tied up. Any veil design will fit with a hair that is pulled up. A wedding veil which includes a comb that can be slid or passed through the hair makes a stylish and neat look. You may decide for a more intricate and complicated veil with precious stones like crystal or rhinestones and longer veil length. If you are just wearing your hair down you may want to place the veil on the top most portion on your head. If your hair is on locks or curls, then the veil should be placed at the mid portion of your head.

The veil has four principal or different types such as the blusher, the elbow length veil, the fingertip veil and the cathedral veil. The blusher can be worn both in formal and informal weddings. It is short in length or a shoulder length veil composed of a single thick fabric. An elbow length veil is the most common type of veil. It is about 24 inches in length and touches the elbow. A fingertip veil is around 36 inches in length and is combined with a blushing veil. This veil should touch your fingertips. The cathedral veil is the longest among the wedding veils which extends to the floor past the train. This kind of veil uses yards and yards of veil material. This is used only in formal weddings also called the royal veil.

Whichever type of veil you are going to select you must take into consideration a number of factors before deciding the veil that you want. You must consider first of all your height, then the length of your wedding gown or dress, the intricate details of your gown and the hairstyle or the way you want your hair to be worn.

The wedding veil should harmonize with the chic design and the length of your wedding dress. The veil should either fall above or below the focal point of your dress.

Veils come in different colors. The most common color for a veil is white of course. Some colors include off white, ivory, champagne and diamond white. Keep in mind to bring your veil when fitting your wedding dress to assure and match the perfect color, fit and length. A veil correctly selected will complete your sheer and flawless wedding dress.
