Wreaths are popular decorations during the holiday season. They usually are the first to greet us some holiday cheer when we knock on a friend's door. The most common holiday wreaths are usually floral. Flowers are greatly appreciated as they give holiday ornaments that breezy refreshing look even when it is raining snow outside. Though floral wreaths may seem to look a little complicated, these are fairly easy to make. To make this holiday more joyful, why don't you gather up the family and start a floral wreath project of your own. There is nothing like creative crafts to bond you and start to keep that holiday spirit rolling.

All you will need is a wreath base, scissors, glue or tape, flowers and a few extra bows and ties for added effect. The wreath base is usually shaped like a ring. The more prevalent selection, these bases are made out of straw, grapevine or Styrofoam. A green garland of ivy, evergreen, morning glory or gardenia is used to cover the base. Pins may be used to attach the garland to the Styrofoam base. If you are working with a straw or a grapevine base, wire may be more appropriate to hold the garland in. You can opt to cover the base all throughout in green which is best when you are using Styrofoam. Leaving a few peeks of grapevine or straw may show some flair as well.

And now it is time to add in your flowers. In choosing your flowers, there should be a particular theme for your holiday wreath in mind. Some may say; "What the heck, let's take in all colors and all designs. It is Christmas anyway so let us go wild and creative." While this may be a good idea, bear in mind that the wreath is your holiday greeting. Let us at least not make it a circus. The colors should be able to complement one another. Band together your selection and see if they look good. This will be a preview to your wreath. Also, the good thing about having a theme or settling on a group of flowers is the savings that you can get. It is always less expensive to buy a bunch than get two or three of each kind. Prices vary and flowers are expensive.

On deciding on how many flowers you will need, take into account your wreath base particularly its size. It is also important to consider how much space you want your flowers to cover. Go for flowers that still have a base stem on them. It would be easier to tuck into your wreath base if such is the case. Work on your design. You may want to try arranging and positioning your flowers first before securing them down to give you a picture of your wreath. This will give you a chance to improvise without all the hassle of pulling and replacing them on. Once you have settled in what you want, you may use floral wire or glue, whichever is more appropriate to append them on. For that extra oomph, ribbons, glitters and trimmings may be added.
