If you are a music lover who have always wanted to own a guitar for as long as you can remember then take our advice and go get yourself one. Life is too short to always be hoping and hoping to get something one day. Like what Robin William's movie character once said, "Carpe diem! Seize the day!"

But then again, before you get excited and go scrambling toward the music store, you better read this article first so that you will be guided on choosing the right guitar for you. In your frenzy, you might grab the first one that you have laid your eyes on. Grab a pen and paper and take note of the checklist that will surely give you your money's worth and afford you a quality guitar of value that you can cherish all throughout your music loving years.

First thing on your checklist is to write the type of guitar that you want. There are basically four types of guitar and they are also fairly different and with distinctive uses or purpose. There is the acoustic guitar which has no need of amplification. This type of guitar has strings that are made up of either wound steel or nylon. A kind of acoustic guitar is the classic guitar. Its difference from the basic acoustic guitar is its neck which is made wider to accommodate finger-picking techniques.

Then there's your modern electric guitar which to be heard has to have amplification. And if you want to have the best of both worlds, you should purchase an acoustic and electric guitar which works both ways, either without or with the needed amplification.

If you are still baffled on which type of guitar to buy then you better match up your choice with the kind of music you like to play. Musical styles include the blues, alternative, classical, bluegrass, country, finger style, folk, rock, jazz, ragtime, metal or a combination of folk and rock. Usually the four types of guitar can be used for most of these styles but there are a few that needs a specific type for you to get the right groove on.

While you can use classic, acoustic or electric when playing the blues or jazz music, an electric guitar is the requirement when you are tuned to play rock or metal music and classical music particularly needs an acoustic guitar with nylon strings for it to pitch in the right classical melody.

In choosing a particular brand of guitar, you will always feel at ease with guitar manufacturing companies who already have established their names and reputation in the business in providing quality products and support service should you need any. This is good advice especially for beginners who have little or no idea on the basics of the guitar like its parts and its tuning methods. Please do test the strings and the tuning of your guitar before making your purchase. Go for a guitar that complements your skill level as well as your budget. To save on your purchase, you may want to inquire about the store's package deals or promotional sales.
